Cleaning tools storage ideas – organisation tips

Storing cleaning tools – Tuti organisation tips for the home

Storing cleaning tools is a constant headache. Usually we just throw them away in some hidden corner where they won’t hurt the eyes and break the clean and tidy look of our home. However, we don’t have a specific place for them, we often pile them up and we don’t have a set system for how we store them. Rather than perfection, it is more important that the storage of cleaning tools and the system we have set up is logical and easy for us to manage, taking into account our cleaning habits. That’s why I’ve come up with a few sure-fire tips to make our lives easier and organise our cleaning products in an aesthetically pleasing and practical way.

Steps towards storing your cleaning tools

Before we get into the different ways to store your cleaning tools, let’s take a look at what tools you have! I’m sure every household has plenty of rags, sponges and chemical bottles lying around. It’s good to have the right utensil for everything, but it’s worth investing in a few better quality pieces. A cleaning brush, a telescopic duster or an ostrich duster will make our cleaning habits a lot easier and a pleasure to clean with. Once you’ve got everything you need and thrown away your out-of-date, broken or unusable cleaning products, the categorising can begin!

Group your cleaning tools according to their function: sponges, brushes and wipes should be in the same place, but clearly separated. Categorise chemicals according to the rooms and surfaces they are used in. Separate chemicals used in the bathroom, kitchen disinfectants and so on and so forth. Once this is done, we can move on to the next task. Finding a container that suits our storage and cleaning habits.

If you like to store in a box, I would definitely recommend the multifunctional bin or the Eco bin range. You don’t have to spend hours looking through the bin, you can see where you are right away. Besides, they are very well suited for small and large spaces. However, if the bins are not practical for you or you want something different, I’ll show you some tricks to refresh your storage habits.

Easily from one room to another

Keep your cleaning supplies in a portable container so you can easily take them with you to different areas of the house when needed. It’s handy to have all your smaller items in one place and its compact size means it fits neatly into any small space for storage. Finally, its size and design make it an inspiration, as it holds only the most essential chemicals and cleaning supplies.

Storage under the sink

Most of us create a little nook in the kitchen or bathroom, in the cupboard under the sink, where we store our cleaning tools. Usually we don’t allocate much space for these items, which is not a problem as there are countless possibilities to create a perfect storage system in such a small space. First of all, we use storage boxes to collect sponges, gloves and chemical bottles. If these don’t provide enough storage space, we can add more. Here are a few options that can help us:

Rotating tray

A divided turntable gives us easy access to all our cleaning tools in tight spaces. Thanks to the rotating surface, we always have the right product in front of us and the high rim prevents cleaning tools from tipping off.

It’s worth sorting the rotating tray so that it contains the items you need on a daily basis. You just spin it and you can reach it with ease!

Storing your chemicals on a pyramid

With the help of a chemical storage pyramid, our cleaning tool cupboard will finally show a more tidy face. The three shelves provide plenty of space for bottles, scrubbing brushes, wipes and other cleaning products. In addition, the raised rim of the shelves helps prevent chemicals stored on them from dripping or spilling. Best of all, the multiple tiers give you a great view of what products you have and make them easier to access. You can use the pyramid in the cabinet under the sink, but also on the bathroom counter.

Storage of cleaning utensils using rods

To save space, it’s a good idea to hang up some of your products so that you only have cleaning products that need to be placed at the bottom of the shelf. The perfect solution is to install a wall-mounted storage unit in your cupboard that fits the size of your cupboard, and hang the handles of your spray bottles on it. You can also use hooks of various sizes to hang additional storage units or wipes and rags. This way you can really double the number of cleaning tools you have under the sink.

If you can’t fit it in the cupboard…

I’ve talked about storing smaller cleaning items before, but here are the harder-to-store items that take up a lot more space and look even less aesthetically pleasing in your home. We need to think about taller dusters, mops and brooms. Vertical storage can help here too, whether it’s on a wall or one of the doors, a tool and broom rack makes it easy to store razors, mops, brooms and other tools. It can also be used in garages, laundry rooms, kitchens, closets and provides an efficient solution for those who have limited space at home.

Storage for cleaning tools: like a closet

It’s great to have a whole room that can be converted into a storage area for your cleaning tools. With this space, it’s easy to use all the methods listed and feel free to choose from a range of options.

The installation of a shelving system provides an excellent opportunity to separate as many categories of cleaning equipment as possible.

This makes the use of organiser units indispensable. In a separate storage room, we can choose what type is right for us, or even combine several pieces to ensure that our beloved cleaning products receive the right treatment and storage. You could say, creating a space for them like a separate wardrobe for clothes.

Storing cleaning supplies is definitely an important aspect of organising your home, as you’re doing yourself a favour by creating a system that is transparent and logical. This saves us time and energy during the preparation and final stages of a clean. I hope you found the above post interesting and have been able to draw inspiration from it. Remember, first of all, sort, then categorise your leftover cleaning products and finally find the storage units that are best for you!
