Haven’t managed to get everyone their Christmas presents yet and you’re running out of time? Don’t worry, I’ve put together some ideas for you, including some of the best Christmas presents. However, the best gift is different for everyone. Some people prefer something useful, while others prefer something nice that they wouldn’t buy for themselves on a daily basis.
Choosing the best Christmas gifts
To ensure that the best Christmas gifts are under every loved one’s tree on Christmas Eve, you need to pay attention to a few things. After all, being mindful when it comes to gift-giving is also very important. Here are some tips to help you get closer to finding the perfect gifts.
- Make a list!
I might not be as helpful this year, but writing a letter to your angels can be a useful idea for the future! It may sound childish at first, but a gift list can make shopping a lot easier. Nowadays, most people buy themselves what they need and want during the year.
But what if you could write down a few things that you want to buy yourself at the end of the year? If it’s not a necessity, you’ve already given a loved one a good idea of who can buy it for you.
Ask your family and friends to make their own wish lists, so you’re guaranteed to have the best Christmas presents for them and a stress-free holiday preparation.
You can write this list on paper in the traditional way, but an online document that you share with others can be edited throughout the year and even include links if you have very specific wishes!
- It’s not the price of the gift that matters!
Many people don’t buy smaller items because they are afraid the gift-giving party will fall short. A lot of small things can often bring more pleasure than an expensive phone, for example. Personal gifts are among the best Christmas presents for most people, as they usually remind them of a shared experience.
So don’t be afraid to give a personal gift, even if it’s just a little something. For grandparents, for example, a picture frame montage filled with photos of you and your grandchildren together can be a great choice. After all, few elderly people have smartphones that let them look back at photos and see their family whenever they glance at the wall.
Shared photos can make lots of gifts, but it’s worth bearing in mind that the hundredth photo cushion can get boring after a while and not everyone likes to upset the style of their living room with a different cushion.
But personal items such as engraved gifts or a small item that reminds you of a shared story can always be a winning choice.
- Don’t underestimate gift vouchers!
However, you don’t have to buy a personal gift at any cost. A distant acquaintance you see a few times a year won’t expect you to surprise them with a gift inspired by shared memories. But for a close relative, you may also decide to choose a gift that you know they really need right now. Therefore, I think a gift voucher is not a bad gift at all and if you take the situation of the gifted party into account a little, you can choose very aptly from a range of vouchers.
If the person is moving house, a voucher for home furnishings can be very useful for them, while for a bookworm, a book voucher can be one of the best Christmas gifts.
However, here too, make sure it makes the recipient happy.
So a voucher to a baby products store might be helpful for a new parent, but it’s really for their child and not the couple. In such cases, it is worth asking if they need such a gift.
What about typical Christmas presents?
I’m sure everyone has received typical and somewhat unimaginative gifts at Christmas, such as a mug, Christmas decorations or some kind of sweets or alcohol. I don’t think these are the best Christmas gifts, but there are a few exceptions. Let’s see what the most common gifts are and which ones I think are really good!
Experience gifts for Christmas
I think experience gifts are very common, and for good reason. One of the best gifts for any occasion.
However, it’s not just any gift, you have to pay attention to the recipient’s habits just as much as you would when buying any other gift.
Travel and wellness weekends cannot be ignored, but if you have a fixed date, it is worth checking or asking the calendar of the person you are gifting. Experiences such as tandem jumping, cooking classes or shooting are already quite thematic, so they are recommended for different types of people. Also, whatever experience you give, in most cases it’s best if you take part with the gifted party and not just send them hot air ballooning, but take part together!
A gastro gift: good or not so good?
I think a gastro gift can be a good gift. It just doesn’t matter what it is and who it’s for. I don’t necessarily recommend buying gastro gifts for people who are picky or have food allergies. However, for gourmets, special sauces, quality drinks, craft sweets or beers make good gifts. Be careful not to buy an assortment of hot peppers and chilli sauces for a person who can’t stand spicy.
So you need to know the gift-giving party at a minimum here too.
For edible and drinkable items, avoid cheap wine, supermarket sweets and other sweets. Focus on special treats.
Popular but not great gift types
It’s not a general statement that gifts in this category are bad choices for everyone, but the fact is that most people are not happy to see them under the tree. But which ones and why do I not recommend them? The mug listed earlier is an example. I know it’s hard to resist a cute mug, but after a while, the accumulation of mugs is hard to keep tidy and sooner or later most of them will be destined to be dismantled and all that’s left on the kitchen shelf is the single set and a personal favourite.
The situation with DIY gifts is similar to other Christmas themed decorations. That is, they are not very useful to the person receiving the gift. Of course, you can find really nice and practical things among DIY gifts, as well as decorative items such as a stylish sculpture, but it’s worth forgetting the Christmas theme, because not many people need a tenth snow globe or a different coloured knitted ornament than the rest of the hangings on the Christmas tree.
Best Christmas gifts: 5+1 ideas from me
What are the gifts that would surprise and delight many people, apart from the experience and the personal? I’ve brought you 5+1 ideas that will be useful for many!
- Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it keeps hot tea or coffee hot for up to 12 hours, while it doesn’t let cool drinks heat up for up to 25 hours, something not many thermoses can do, so you’re guaranteed to be surprised by the performance of this canteen!
- Reindeer ring holder. There are several animal shapes to choose from, but the reindeer is an iconic animal for Christmas. Although at first glance you might think that this tiny object doesn’t hold many rings, you can actually hang up to 8 rings on it.
3 Bird bottle opener. It’s a popular gift for a reason, as it can add novelty and surprise to those who seem to have everything. The head of the bird has a bottle opener which can be attached to the stand with a magnet after use.
- Thanks to its minimalist design, it can fit into almost any style of home. For women, it’s a great jewellery holder, but it can also hold a watch and phone, making it a great gift for men too. It can even be used to store masks and small hand sanitisers in the hallway, so you won’t forget them at home.
- For a person who follows an eco-conscious lifestyle, it’s a total hit, but for a student or an adult who packs a lunch for themselves to work, it’s equally a super gift.
+1: Silicone toilet brush: if you’re gifting a close friend who’s not far from humour, I think it’s not too shabby to give even a good quality and ultra hygienic toilet brush – which isn’t really a brush – as a gift, if you know the recipient is open to it. Do you think such a gift is funny or embarrassing?
There’s nothing more important than the surprise and the pleasure of giving a gift, and if the gift is truly from the heart, the recipient is guaranteed to treasure it.
But don’t forget that Christmas is a celebration of love for a reason.
Giving presents is just an extra source of joy, the most important thing is to bring the family together and share intimate moments together.
Does your family have a tradition of gift-giving, or do you prefer it when the little ones open presents under the tree? What would you be most excited about? What would be the best Christmas presents for you?
