Bathroom organization and storage: practical and not so good solutions

Bathroom organization and storage: practical and not so good solutions

Are you about to organise your bathroom? In this room, it’s worth paying attention to storage technology, since you can pack a lot of small things here. I’ve come up with some of the most practical storage solutions to make your choice easier!

First step in bathroom organisation: sorting

Bathroom organisation cannot be successful without sorting. So unpack everything from the bathroom cabinets and shelves, take everything off the edge of the tub or shower and start sorting! Get rid of anything that’s past its expiry date, be it cleaning products, make-up or other cosmetics.

How do you know if a cosmetic product has expired? On each package, you’ll find an unopened jar icon indicating how many months you can use it after opening. Most often you will find an expiry date of 6 or 12 months, but shorter and longer expiry dates are possible.

If you don’t know when you have opened a cosmetic, rely on your senses!

If you notice a different consistency or smell, the product has probably gone bad. In the future, write the date of opening on the product so you can easily track the expiry date! But you can also keep track of the dates on a piece of paper or in an Excel file if you don’t want to scribble on the tube.

What don’t you need?

When sorting, of course, you don’t just need to consider whether a product has expired, as the bathroom isn’t just for cosmetics or cleaning products. Hair elastics, towels, rags and other items also have a place here. That’s why you should sort carefully, getting rid of anything you don’t use or that you keep a lot of.

After all, you don’t necessarily need a lot of towels, for example, and towels with holes, fluff and wear don’t need to take up any more space. Do you have a hair iron that doesn’t even turn on anymore? You probably don’t need it any more, because if you haven’t fixed it before, chances are you probably won’t fix it now.

Got a shelf full of product samples? If you haven’t tried them yet, why are you keeping them? Do you have a cleaning product that hasn’t worked? Don’t keep them even if they haven’t expired, because you won’t use them anyway. If you don’t want to throw everything in the bin, you can donate or distribute any good quality products among your relatives. After all, someone else might have a favourite cleaning product that you didn’t like.

And don’t forget to categorise while you’re doing all that sorting!

Put shower and hair-washing products in separate piles, cleaning products in a separate group, make-up and skincare routine products in a separate group, and so on.  With groups, you’ll see how much of everything you need to find space for and what storage solutions you’ll need.

Bathroom organisation: choosing the right storage

Bathroom organisation can often seem difficult, as there is often little space or little storage. Bathrooms are often the smallest room in the household in even the most spacious homes, or there’s not much room to store a lot of stuff. Would you think that organisers would just take up more space? That’s a misconception, because a well-chosen organiser will help to keep your space from feeling cluttered and cluttered, and will make storage easier, not more complicated.

When choosing your organiser, always look at the dimensions!

It’s no use liking a storage unit if it doesn’t fit in the space it’s designed for, or if it’s not the optimum size for the items you want to store. Also, always keep in mind the type of storage you are looking for. After all, it will be different for shelf storage and drawer storage.

Best solutions for drawer storage

If you store most of your bathroom stuff in drawers, don’t make the mistake of just throwing everything in the drawers! Even if you have a whole drawer dedicated to your facial products, it’s not the best idea to throw everything in there, as you’ll have a hard time finding things.

A makeup drawer organizer conveniently divides the things you store in it into 4 sections. Contrary to its name, it’s not just for storing make-up products. It also provides clear storage for hair gels, manicure supplies and other small items. Its design makes it suitable for most drawers. If you want to store several categories of small items in the drawer at once, this is a great solution.

For a larger drawer or to store more things, choose the 6-piece expandable makeup organizer! Or choose individually from our range of separate makeup drawer organisers, allowing you to create a modular system to your own taste.

What should you look for when looking for a bathroom storage solution with drawers?  For one, how you arrange your drawers.

Stow your everyday products in easily accessible places! While put things you rarely use in the bottom drawers or at the end of drawers.

On the other hand, I would advise you to choose plastic storage as it is much easier to keep clean than the wooden versions. Especially if you want to store make-up, creams, oral hygiene products in them. It’s easy for them to spill out of the tube and discolour the container.

Bathroom organisation with shelf storage

If you store your things on a shelf, there are still a few things to look out for. You can also use the trick of shelving drawers in the bathroom, but this won’t solve the problems of deep shelves. The downside of deeper shelves is that things that are stacked in the back are hard to reach, so they get forgotten and left to spoil.

But a tiered cosmetic organiser is designed to eliminate this! You can put lots of things on it and access anything very easily. Smaller sized rotating trays can be a good solution, but for narrower shelves, drawer make-up containers that you can stack on top of each other are also very practical.

These storage tech tools all help to make the most of vertical space!

Storing electrical appliances correctly

A big issue in bathroom organization is how to store various electrical appliances such as hair dryers and other hair stylers, epilators, etc. I don’t think it’s a good idea to just put them on top of the bathroom cabinet or leave them on the washing machine after use. You should definitely find a fixed place to store them aesthetically and safely!

When storing them, it’s important to keep them as far away from water as possible to avoid possible accidents. You also need to make sure that the cord is not broken, and after use, it doesn’t matter where you put the hot hair straightener. A heat-resistant silicone hair straightener system can help you find a solution. If you use a hair straightener every day, this will make it easier for you, you don’t have to wait for your device to cool down every day, you can pack it away straight after use.

If you’re not the impatient type and like to wait until your device cools down, a large, simple plastic hair dryer organizer will do the trick. You can place this on a shelf, in a bathroom gadget or even in a drawer.

Can’t fit in the bathroom? Do this!

For a smaller bathroom organizer, you need to be very selective about where you find a permanent place for what. In this case, it’s a good idea to move some things to other areas of the household.

For example, you can store make-up products in the bedroom or on your make-up table with a handy cosmetics organizer. You can move a compact storage unit from one room to another at any time, so you can conveniently put your make-up on in the bathroom without having to store it there. Although a simple compact is a handy solution for such situations, it’s harder to find products and, when stored flat, can easily spill and collide.

Even in a bathroom, towels and cleaning products are easy to move. You can always keep the former in your wardrobe and the latter in the cupboard under the kitchen tap. This frees up space in a smaller bathroom. If your bathroom is big enough but you’re short on storage cupboards, shelves and drawers, a storage rack on wheels can be a great solution.

Practical bathroom accessories for an aesthetically pleasing environment

The most important goal of bathroom organisation is to find a place for everything and keep all your surfaces transparent. But it’s also worth paying attention to creating an aesthetically pleasing environment. After all, too much colour can cause visual clutter just as much as clutter can cause chaos. So if you can, unify your bathroom fixtures and fittings!

Instead of soap stored in plastic packaging, opt for an automatic soap dispenser, which is not only beautiful but also practical, especially during the more viral seasons. Even more aesthetically pleasing and hygienic than a plastic toilet brush, a silicone toilet brush with its minimalist style will fit in with the rest of your bathroom accessories. The toilet environment can also be made more aesthetically pleasing with a modern toilet paper roll stand with a telephone holder.

So, organising your bathroom is not a devil’s errand, but it can take time to find the storage solutions that work best for you. It is essential not to lose sight of the size of the room. If you have a smaller bathroom, store only the essentials and don’t keep any extras. Or at least not in the bathroom.

As this room is used daily by all members of the family, it is important that the system you have set up is understandable and easy for them to use. This can be helped by a range of organisers that provide simple and logical storage for even the smallest of children.
